Reflecting on the Election Outcome: A Call for Unity, Resilience, and Faith in Challenging Times

As the Managing Editor of Soigné + Swank Magazine, I approach this moment with a heavy heart yet an unwavering commitment to our community. Four years ago on the heels of the 2020 Election, we launched this publication to celebrate Black Excellence and to uplift stories of resilience, strength, and hope. We began our journey with then Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris gracing our inaugural cover, a symbol of breaking barriers and moving toward a more inclusive future. Today, as the country prepares for a different reality, my thoughts are with the Black and Brown communities who will bear the weight of this moment in distinct ways.

The Reality of Division, Hatred, and Racism

This election season has underscored the deep divides within our country. The rhetoric of hate, the rise of blatant racism, and the systemic inequities that continue to impact Black and Brown lives have resurfaced with renewed force. It is hard not to worry about what this means for our community’s safety, our right to be heard, and our fight for equality. There is an undeniable sense of uncertainty and concern for the world in which we are raising our children—a world where they should feel safe, valued, and empowered but instead may face additional obstacles and injustices.

As a Black woman and mother, this outcome hits close to home. I am filled with questions and apprehensions about the future my son will inherit. Will he be safe in a world that continues to struggle with seeing his worth? Will he have opportunities to grow, learn, and excel in an environment free from prejudice? These are concerns that many of us share, not only as parents but as members of a community that has fought long and hard for progress, only to face renewed challenges.

The Future of Education

This political reality may bring difficult times for educators, students, and Black-owned small businesses, which so often reflect the heart of our communities. For the field of education, we face potential policies that may fail to prioritize the needs of underrepresented students, leaving them further marginalized in a system that should be a door of opportunity. We are left wondering if our children will receive the quality education and supportive environment they deserve.

For small business owners, especially those of color, the coming years may bring increased struggles as we strive for equal opportunities and economic stability. Small BIPOC-owned businesses continue to face barriers to funding, resources, and support. With the tone set by recent election rhetoric, these challenges may feel even more daunting.

A Call for Unity, Resilience, and Faith

In times like these, I find solace and strength in remembering that God is still God and will forever be in control. In John 14:27 (NIV), we are reminded: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” This scripture brings comfort, reminding us that while the world may feel chaotic, we can rest in God’s peace—a peace that surpasses understanding and holds us steady even in uncertain times.

As we face the challenges ahead, let us lean on our faith, trusting that God’s hand is guiding us. This journey may be filled with struggles, but we are not alone. God’s love and presence are unshakeable, and His plans are greater than what we can see in this moment. We are called to move forward with courage, trusting that there is a purpose even in these difficult times.

A Celebration of Resilience and Purpose

As we release our latest reflections and celebrate our journey into year four, Soigné + Swank Magazine reaffirms our dedication to amplifying the excellence, resilience, and creativity of Black and Brown communities. Together, let’s continue, leaning on our faith and lifting each other up. The road ahead may not be easy, but with God’s guidance and the strength of our community, we will rise above, creating a brighter future for our children and generations to come.
