Dear Mom – I adore you, I respect you, I honor you, and I love you!

I am writing to the world about you today simply to share with them a little about the special woman you have been since I have known you for 51 years!  You have been a loving and faithful wife for 62 years and always made caring and providing for the family your number one priority. As a loving mother with the ability to look years down the road, made the sacrifice of giving up rearing me for a school year in order to work on earning your Doctorate Degree in order to better position yourself both professionally and financially…. a sacrifice in which at that time I did not understand but as an adult now I fully understand the resolve and courage you had to have in order to make such a powerful decision! ❤️

You dedicated and committed over 30 years of your life to one of the greatest HBCU’s…Grambling State University where you served as a Professor and worked tirelessly as the Dean of The College of Business on getting the College of Business accredited with the State of Louisiana before you retired!  You served diligently and faithfully as an OES, taught Sunday School, and served as the church secretary at the New Hope Baptist Church in Chatham, La for over 20 years….a position in which following in your footsteps I now serve in this same capacity!

You have always supported my interests ranging from athletics to academics to business! You have always allowed me to be my own man and make many of my own decisions knowing I would make some not-so-wise choices along the way but in the end, would lead me to be a better man by allowing me to exercise that freedom. When you took me to work with you as a little boy and allowed me the opportunity to sit in your classroom, I listened to you advise your students on the importance of not only getting good grades but also on having high character, always being professional, and maintaining your good name!

Over the past few years, as I have served as your caretaker and watched you suffer from symptoms of Dementia and Alzheimer’s, I can still see and feel the love and recognize the nurturing side you have for me whenever you smile at me, touch the top of my head, and utter the words “You’re a Good Son and Always Be Good Man”!

I want you to know that you have laid the foundation for me to carry your “Good Name” forward and was the main factor in contributing to me establishing the Donte Andrew Annie Inc., a Non-Profit organization for which I plan to someday establish an Educational scholarship at your Alma Mater Grambling State University in your name to ensure your legacy continues to live on once your time here is complete!

In summation…I will simply end this little letter with these words I hold dear to my heart, mind, body, and soul: I adore you, I respect you, I honor you, and I love you!

Your son,
Acy D. Brown
