In the dynamic intersection of entertainment, technology, and cultural impact, Folasadé Ogunmokun stands as a trailblazer, reshaping the landscape through her visionary work as the founder and CEO of Unskrypted. This shoppable streaming network is not just a platform; it’s a revolutionary ecosystem that seamlessly weaves together Black-led content and Black-owned businesses. Folasadé’s journey towards innovation began with her educational pursuits, where she studied television production at Howard University and later earned a Master’s in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University. Drawing on her Nigerian American heritage, she leverages her multicultural background to connect with audiences across the African Diaspora, exemplifying the power of diversity in the industry. Her brainchild, Unskrypted, is more than a streaming service — it’s a manifestation of her commitment to building a legacy as an innovative disruptor.
The platform allows viewers to not only consume content but also shop directly from what they see on TV, creating a unique and immersive viewing experience. Currently featured on Peacock for the second season of “Founding in Color,” a docuseries from Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs, Folasadé sheds light on the experiences of eleven Black and Latino startup founders. In this three-part series, she delves into topics such as race, family, identity, mental health, and more, providing an authentic glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of building and scaling businesses in America today. Her accomplishments extend beyond the screen; Folasadé is a proud recipient of the Jrue and Lauren Holiday foundation and was one of the eight founders who pitched at the inaugural NBA Foundation Pitch competition during NBA All-Star Weekend in Utah. Adding another layer to her repertoire, Folasadé is set to launch “THE BAG” on Unskrypted, a groundbreaking shoppable show featuring dynamic hosts and an array of Black businesses.
All this, while gracefully balancing the responsibilities of being a mother to an innovative 11-year-old. Folasadé’s overarching goal is clear — to leverage media and entertainment to bridge cultural gaps and redefine narratives within the Black community. Through her relentless pursuit of innovation, she is not just creating content; she’s shaping a narrative that resonates with authenticity, representation, and empowerment. Folasadé Ogunmokun is not just a name; she’s a force reshaping the future of entertainment.
