We’re so excited to learn about your latest book. Please tell us all about it!

Fenyx: The Classroom CEO is Volume 2 of my original book called To Teach or Not To Teach. In the original book, my co authors discuss our decisions to stay or to leave the classroom while providing tips, resources and action steps for teachers who are deciding should they exit. In the newest book, my coauthors and I discuss our businesses and how we manage to either be teacherpreneurs or full time entrepreneurs. We share our stories, resources, and advice. The book is perfect for an educator who has a skill that can be monetized and wants to take a leap and start their own business or anyone who likes to learn from the journey of others.

As a mother of three, how do you balance your personal life, being an author, your passion for mentorship, and your various initiatives effectively?

Fenyx: As a coach, I teach my teachers to do a priority pyramid strategy and list what is the most important three things to accomplish in a day. I use this same strategy in my own life. If I tried to do and have it all it would be overwhelming and unrealistic, but when I take it day by day and keep it simple, I am able to be a present impactful mom, author, mentor and coach. Some days my top three is about my books and some days it is about my teachers. I must say that showing gratitude every day gives me balance and the ability to do my top three tasks successfully each day.

What are some upcoming events we can be on the lookout for?

Fenyx: I have several local author events and festivals that I will participate in. I also plan to do more podcasts and classroom visits. If my supporters follow me @fenyxblueink they will be able to watch my journey and introduce themselves to me at events.

We commend all you have accomplished as an educator. Could you walk me through the Snowflake program and how it fosters problem-solving skills, relationships, and positive choices among students?

Fenyx: Since my first year as an educator, I have participated in the Snowflake anti-drug and anti-bullying program. The program joins adult mentors and high school mentors together to perform skits, play games, and host discussions with middle school students. There are motivational speakers at the event to share their experience with the students and to answer their questions. The students always have breakout sessions to discuss the major topics and to apply what they learn to their lives. When the middle schoolers come on a Saturday they are sleepy and sometimes uninterested, but from the moment they enter they are dancing with teens, getting a sweatshirt that shows them we are all one, and able to call their adult teachers by the first name. The kids are excited even before we feed them pizza and snacks. If you think about it, we all start off as snowflakes, but when we join together being each of our unique selves to the situation, we become a mighty powerful Snowball. Snowflake allows for transformation one kid at a time.

What are some future goals or expansion plans for DIVAS, Team BFF, and Snowflake?

Fenyx: I hope to have my students to run these programs more in the future. I think that youth leadership is the key to the success of all industries. If the leaders stay young, the program will thrive and survive. I hope to continue to grow the numbers in all programs. I’d love to take them on excursions and expand these programs into neighboring schools that do not have these programs. It has always been a dream of mine to bring Snowflake to all 1000 kids at my school. With the help of sponsors, we will get there one day.

As a speaker, ministry leader, mentor, and instructional coach, how do you ensure that your message resonates with diverse audiences?

Fenyx: I think what comes from the heart reaches the heart. I am always honest about my faith and my failures. I think that people resonate with how true blue I am. When I spoke this weekend to an audience of entrepreneurs and teachers, someone said what she loved most is that she could tell I spoke from the heart and was “so real.” When I lead kids at church, I don’t pretend to be perfect because they wouldn’t trust me. When I listen to my clients and coach them, I share my truth and give them a real depiction of my triumphs and challenges in the classroom. My message is to be Bold, Loving, Unapologetically you, and Evolving. That is what BLUE stands for. It resonates with diverse audiences because most people are able to connect with one of those words. It resonates because most people are willing to listen to my BLUE story because they have a BLUE story of their own.
