Are you ready for 2022? Or should I say, is your vision ready for 2022? In my experience, most of us go into the next year thinking about what we want for ourselves, businesses and relationships, but it stops there. We are on to the next… out with the old and in with the new. But are we though?
If the last two years have taught us anything, it’s that time waits for no one, put your mask on first (literally), and that we didn’t realize how “busy” we were for the sake of being busy… until the world shut down. Instead of going into 2022 with the same old resolutions you set year after year and being on autopilot, I challenge you this year to make room for your vision. Of course, I will give you some tips on how to do it too, keep reading friend!
When it comes down to it, we are the ones that have to look in the mirror when what we said we wanted to accomplish doesn’t quite go as planned. And listen, I’m not throwing shade, I’m talking to myself as much as I’m talking to you. What I’ve learned though, after years of disappointing myself, is that I didn’t make time or room to do what I said I wanted to do. What had happened was, work got in the way, the priorities of my role as a wife and mom got the best of me, and by the time I had time to work on my goals and vision, I was exhausted.
What I also learned though, is that I had to get intentional about making room, not finding it, to execute the vision and plans I had. I can honestly say that over the last year, I put into practice the tips below, and it’s led me to having one of the most fulfilling and successful years, both personally and professionally, that I’ve ever had. I have a happy and healthy marriage, my coaching and consulting business is booming, my podcast is a five-star international podcast, and my confidence has sky-rocketed.
If you want to finally bring to fruition that vision God gave you, then apply these tips with consistency (it’s a never-ending process), and watch it come to life.
- Leave What Didn’t Work in 2021 in 2021
I’m a firm believer that failure or things not working out is both a blessing and an opportunity to get it right. Instead of focusing on what went wrong as you move into 2022, learn from it and leave it behind. Whether you learned that being a perfectionist kept you from putting your business out there, or you realized you spent too much time on Instagram or TikTok, it’s ok. Recognizing it and making the necessary shifts is what matters most.
- Get Clear on What You Want and Need This Year
Keeping that same energy, don’t spend too much of your time focusing on what you wanted to happen last year. Instead, put that energy to work and map out what you want your life to look like this year. We’re leaving 2021 in 2021, remember? And be specific. From how much money you want to make, to what you want your relationships to be like, the clearer you are on what you want, the easier it will be to figure out what you need to make it happen. Speaking of clarity, let’s be clear that bringing your vision to life will require you to bring other people in so they can help you. In order to get that help though, you have to know how they can help you. So be open to allowing others that God puts in your life to help you execute. He gave you the vision, so trust that He will give you provision. You just have to spend time mapping it out.
- Write It Out
I cannot stress enough how important this part is. You might think you know what you want, but until you get it on paper, it doesn’t matter. I said what I said. Research shows that when we actually write down our vision and goals, we’re 42% more likely to achieve them. I don’t care if you do this in digital form or go old-school and put pen to paper. You have to get it out of your head and into something tangible you can see. This process also helps to brainstorm new ideas, organize your thoughts and come up with a plan to really make it happen.
- Carve Out the Time
I hate to break it to you, but this is the hardest part. We talk all day long about how we don’t have time, but the truth is we do; we just waste a whole lot of it. I mentioned earlier that you have to be intentional, and this is where the rubber meets the road. You have to make bringing your vision to life as much of a priority as you do all the other important parts of your life. For me, this looked like blocking certain hours during the week to work on the plans I mapped out. Even if it’s an hour a day, making room for you to work on your vision is what will make it your reality.
- Get an Accountability Partner
Last but certainly not least, when you’re really on a mission to bring forth your vision, you need accountability. And what better way to get it than to team up with someone else who’s working to do great things? I believe that you are the company you keep, so surrounding yourself with people who are on your level will not only motivate you, but it will also help you stay the course when things get tough. Having that accountability partnership then, is essential to helping you walk the talk.
