What inspired you to become a Pilates instructor, and how has your journey been so far?

I ventured into Pilates at a time when diversity was lacking in the industry, especially among instructors my age. In 2016, I stumbled upon a small Dallas studio that changed everything for me. Although my family and friends pushed me toward a traditional career, I found myself questioning that path frequently, particularly during my many relocations as an army wife. However, the joy Pilates brought me was profound, as was my passion for sharing that joy with others. Eight years later, I’m still thriving!

Mindfulness is at the core of Pilates. The practice emphasizes intentionality and fostering a meaningful connection between body and mind. I encourage my clients to embrace this inner awareness, deepening their Pilates experience.

How do you adapt your teaching style to cater to different fitness levels?

My approach is flexible. I consider not only fitness levels but also the atmosphere — like the weather and my clients’ moods. I attune myself to the energy in the room, aiming to help each participant leave feeling stronger, more aware, and better overall.

What advice would you give to someone who is new to Pilates and hesitant to join a class?

For those feeling unsure, bring a friend along for support! On a more practical note, I recommend checking out the studio’s or instructor’s social media to gauge their vibe and see if it resonates with you.”

How do you stay motivated and continue your own fitness journey as an instructor?

My motivation is rooted in wanting to be my best for my clients. I am dedicated to walking the talk, maintaining a disciplined routine that keeps me engaged in my fitness journey.

In what ways do you see Pilates benefiting children’s physical and mental health?

Pilates provides immense benefits for children — physically, it boosts mobility and stamina, and mentally, it fosters problem-solving skills. When kids face a movement challenge, they learn to analyze their struggles. Younger children, in particular, gain improved attention spans and overall mobility from practicing Pilates.
