We had the pleasure of sitting down with Kimberly Adams, the visionary talent behind Milwaukee’s Signature Sweets and one of the nation’s most acclaimed cake artists. Entirely self-taught, Kimberly is celebrated for her visually captivating, vibrant cakes that blend bold flavors with artistic sophistication. Her creations have not only delighted customers across the country but also caught the attention of the Food Network, where she’s competed on shows like Cupcake Wars and Halloween Wars, and served as a judge on Buddy vs. Duff. A dedicated community member, Kimberly actively participates in the National Association of Wedding Professionals and supports the nonprofit Icing Smiles, spreading joy to families facing critical illness through her custom cakes. Recognized by Milwaukee Mayor Barrett with a proclamation declaring November 3 as “Signature Sweets Day,” Kimberly continues to push the boundaries of her craft, creating hundreds of cakes each year for clients near and far. Fans can look forward to her return to the screen on the upcoming Food Network show, Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking, premiering November 14.
What do you define as success?
Kimberly: I believe success is having a vision, focusing on making a difference, and impacting the lives of others.
What was the inspiration behind your passion for baking?
Kimberly: I loved watching my mom create desserts in the kitchen. Baking became a way for me to express love and nurture others through food, making me feel like I’m giving something valuable to those around me.
What’s your best piece of advice for aspiring and new bakers?
Kimberly: Draw inspiration from your personal experiences, hobbies, or meaningful moments. Create cakes that reflect your passions and tell a story.
Can you share a fun baking tip or trick that home bakers should know?
Kimberly: Don’t waste cake! If you’re not satisfied with the final result, you can freeze the cake and remove the decorations to try a different technique.
What is your proudest business accomplishment?
Kimberly: I’m going to say receiving my own day from the Mayor here in my city Nov 3rd is Signature Sweets Day
Who is your business role model? Why?
Kimberly: There are so many individuals who have contributed to my journey that it’s hard to choose just one. Lorraine Pascale served as my mentor for a year, guiding me through many questions I had during the early stages of my business. The Northwest Side Community Development Corporation (NWSCDC) also played a crucial role, providing financial support while working to strengthen neighborhoods, foster economic growth, and promote urban environmental improvements.
While it may sound cliché, I believe every person I’ve met has influenced my success in various ways. My mother, Pamela Wright, particularly deserves recognition; as a serial entrepreneur herself, she is where I draw my drive and inspiration from.
Any upcoming events or news?
Kimberly: I will be competing on another baking competition show. Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking premieres Thursday, November 14th at 7pm CT / 8pm ET on Food Network.
