Suber & Company Marks 10 Years of Supporting Southern Maryland’s Entrepreneurs

Suber & Company (SCO) proudly celebrates a remarkable milestone — 10 years of excellence in providing coworking spaces and virtual office services to over 350 businesses in Southern Maryland. Founded in 2014 by Natasha Suber Perry, a passionate advocate for small business and economic development in underserved communities, SCO has become a crucial support system for minority-owned, woman-owned, and small operator-owned businesses in the region. Through its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community development, SCO has established itself as the leading virtual office provider in Southern Maryland, paving the way for continued success and growth in the years to come.

What was the inspiration behind starting your company?

In 1998, after my oldest child was born, I started a “secretarial service” from home while in college. I made the mistake of putting my home address on flyers, leading strangers to show up at my door for essay editing and typing services. I discovered a company in D.C. that offered a virtual business address and phone number and was inspired to open a similar business one day. After years of working my way up from front desk roles to program management consulting on federal contracts, I partnered with my youngest sister in 2007 as independent consultants, aiming to raise capital for a virtual office.

Tragically, after her passing in January 2012 due to cancer, I dissolved the business as our operational agreement didn’t account for her absence. Despite facing layoffs at every W2 job, I eventually had a heart-to-heart with God, realizing I was meant to return to business. In 2014, I opened the office we had envisioned, and ten years later, we are still thriving with two major expansions. This journey has been a blessing, allowing me to support many entrepreneurs.

Do you believe in work-life balance? If so, how do you maintain it?

As someone who has struggled with work-life balance, I now appreciate its importance as a member of the “sandwich” generation — balancing care for aging parents with raising children. Last year, I realized my physical and mental health were suffering due to overwhelming family and business obligations. A close friend’s self-care journey inspired me to prioritize self-care, and attending a self-care conference in 2023 was life-changing. Since then, I’ve been intentional about carving out time for activities I enjoy, like gardening. I recently let go of extra work taken on for additional funds, understanding that I needed to lighten my load. With this change, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my well-being, allowing me to better enjoy my family, clients, and life overall.

What’s your best piece of advice for aspiring and new entrepreneurs?

While it’s essential to know your market and competition, you can’t do this alone. Partnering with other companies that offer similar or complementary services is key to growth. Additionally, seek mentorship to expand your business knowledge. I have benefited from participating in various business and executive coaching cohorts.
