Inauguration Day Peacoat Proud

Yet again, another remarkable day in history has been made.  The world witnessed another first. We witnessed the first African-American female sworn in as Vice-President of the United States of America.  This is a day in HERstory(history) that we will not soon forget.  History was made on many levels on this particular day because of the many first.  We are all here for the speeches and the uniting of our country, but can I just say it was the Peacoats for me. Vice President Harris wore purple, a color that symbolizes dignity and royalty.  A statement noted in the Washington Post from CNN’s Abby Philip, the color was a nod to Shirley Chisholm, a trailblazer and the first woman of color elected to U. S. Congress who also ran for the presidential office in 1972.  The purple peacoat ensemble was coordinated by an African-American Louisiana-born designer, Christopher John Rogers who has also dressed some of our favorite celebrities to include Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, and Zendaya. Later that evening she wore a look designed by African-American designer, Sergio Hudson from South Carolina.  And let’s not forget the pearls and nod to her(our) beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,  Incorporated.)

But wait a minute, did you all see former First Lady Michelle Obama come through?  Yes ma’am, we see you first-lady Obama!  With flowing bouncy hair that was laid for the GAWDS to see as she turned heads and captured the internet by storm.  Of course, I immediately googled to find that designer Sergio Hudson had done it again.  The plum-colored ensemble made a bold statement as she graced us with her unapologetic presence at the swearing in ceremony. The full-length trench coat, turtleneck, belt, and sleek pants completed the look of our forever first lady.Vice-President Kamala Harris, former First Lady Obama, and Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were all donned in shades of purple representing the Women’s Suffrage Movement and bipartisanship in hopes of uniting both sides of the aisle. First Lady Jill Biden chose to keep it subtle and classic with a morning ceremony ensemble by emerging designer, Alexandra O’Neill, but later wore an all-white designer piece by Gabriela Hearst.

Another notable mention includes one who always sends the shock wave with just about everything her glam team coordinates.  Yes, the one and only JLo serving up the all-white CHANEL ensemble.  Amanda Gorman, the poet, the author of the Inaugural poem, “The Hill We Climb’ and the United States youngest inaugural poet ever, featured an outfit by Prada and jewelry from Oprah Winfrey. There is so much more that we could mention, but there is one more that I will definitely not forget, Bernie Sanders.  Bernie’s casual outfit or maybe it was the mittens went viral and became a meme sensation for the 2021 Inauguration.
