Tell us a little about your brand.

NURILENS is a handcrafted wooden eyewear company with blue-light blocking solutions in our eyeglasses. As a black, female, Caribbean-owned brand, NURILENS glasses are a tool by which we encourage self-expression, celebrate identity and self to empower people to See through the Lens of their Purpose.

Why would NURILENS be a great holiday gift?

NURILENS frames offer a unique, sustainable, and practical way for people to express their authenticity. It factors in a level of quality that will add a little pep to one’s step. Our styles are great conversation starters, whether they’re based on fashion or the mission behind NURILENS’ brand.

What is your most popular style?

Our most popular style currently is the Elwood City Sun Zebrawood and Elwood City Ebony Sun frames. We found that people appreciate how the rich wooden gradient complements the round shape of the frame and, therefore, makes an excellent accessory for different looks. They still make a solid and fashion-forward pair of sunglasses offering protection from ultraviolet rays from the sun even during colder winter months. The zebrawood and ebony on the Elwood City make it one of our more lightweight pairs and my personal favorite.

Why is eye health such an important topic?

Most of how we process the world occurs through our eyes. In fact, our eye health speaks in many ways to our other health functions. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, marginalized populations do not get the access they need to proactive eye health care. As an Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychologist by trade, CEO Dr. Nelson also recognizes the gross underrepresentation of Black eye health professionals, among other professionals of color in the space, which can impact the eye health care experience for many. This is why NURILENS has launched the State of the Eye survey to better understand these disparities and how to address them.

What does the NURILENS brand have planned for 2024?

NURILENS plans to launch some new designs in 2024, some of which have been long-awaited by our customers. We intend to publish a report with the insights from our State of the Eye Survey, which we hope will be the first of more to come. Customers can expect us to take a more sustainability-centered approach to our product offerings. Lastly, we are working on developing more resources through our various channels, including our VisioNuri Podcast, to support increased awareness in our communities on the importance of maintaining their eye health.
